Ok, redefining the word "boring" on this blog. I've seen alot of people copying my style using dark mahogany varnish on interior wood to to give it colour.
This is stupid! Almost all wood bought for construction these days comes from fast grown, renewable pine forest in Scandanavia.
The reason dark mahogany varnish is expensive and not used these days is largely because it is illegal to import mahogany any more because we have decimated the world's supply.
Dark mahogany varnish on pine looks awful quite frankly.
Why did I use it? I had: a fireplace, stairs, sash window, skirting and architrove in my lounge each of different finishes and colours and it was making me feel sick.
So I sanded everything and stripped everything back as best I could to bare wood. As it turns out because of the detailing on the carving of these features I couldn't completely clean them up.
As a result the only varnish that could safely hide these differances of shade was "dark mahogany" that is all. A professional in a pub for example would section everything off and sand blast the wood clean but I didn't have that option.
So all you people out there promoting "mahoganny" coloured wood are promoting mahoganny and the destruction of the last remaining hardwood rainforests on earth. If you are going to buy mahogany, buy an antique! Serious. bye for now.
FRANKIE HILL must be 35/36? now...still makes me want to go out and skate.... TRAGIC!!
