Does anyone remember "Debunker". I think it was the first Alien Workshop video. Karma Toscheff? Alan Peterson perhaps. Had really strange editing and sound bites with relation to UFOs and government conspiracies. Was pretty cool. One of my favourite videos, worth digging out. Around the same time as "Useless wooden toys" came out for Deathbox.
Nobody's going to buy a mid-ninties shaped deck these days. Even if it's got style it's totally impractical to a serious skater. It belongs in a museum....there's an idea. A skateboard museum. Would be first.....could make some money? Maybe not but worth a go.
I found Debunker. someone posted it on you-tube. SOOOOOOOOOOOoooooooooo 90's that vid. SMA. Slap bang in the middle of grunge. Wore the same clothes, skated with pretty much the same looking people and was arrested in much the same way too. I remember skating was very unpopular then.
Skateboarding killed Kurt Cobain. All this grunge stuff was coming out but never made the main stream. No-one's tried to copyright it coz it didn't sell, you couldn't get hold of it anyway. That was Nirvana's competition when you could buy a slick deck with the front cover of Nevermind on it. A slick was like a platic cover that slid and put you back like another £7 to a pianted board.
Most sane people knew that skating was a fad. Kurt thought his work was nothing special and that he was just given exposure over other artists. Thought he was living a lie. Couldn't live with himself.
It's just most people weren't completely commited to the grunge thing, it was an unhealthy, unpopular lifestyle, a faze you were going through, teen spirit so to speak. Didn't have the commercial backing back then. Was truely underground.
I've just discovered there is no security on my wireless internet connection which is probably why the bills have been is big and Virgin Media have been so arsy on the telephone.......... ASSHOLES!!! I don't know how to do it I'm not trying to be arsy or a rebel or anything. MOTHERFUCKERS!! £60/month
What the f*** are you talking 'bout no ones gonna buy a 90s style deck cause its impractical? i got Templetons repro cat/dog board not so long ago. awesome for going fast and big in concrete. suits me fine.
Most people, who don't have a lot of money, want a deck that can do it all. They want to be able to do nollie tricks, nose wheelies, nose slides, nose blunt slides, etc... They won't be able to do that with an old shaped deck.
If you like skating concrete fast and big maybe a repro 90's deck suits you but most vert terrain skaters would probably settle for something like a Jason Ellis sized deck that is wide enough to make it a good vert deck with 50mm wheels but versitile in the kind of tricks that you can get out of it. Admittedly, the old decks do look as cool as fuck in their own way but that is where my love for them ends.
PERSONALLY, I think the internet should be a free public service. It has to be with so many public services available on it. Either that or change the government....
