SKATE OR DIE
ReplyDeleteLet's not deviate from the main issue. Fuck it, I'd fight one of these wars if they'd have me. I'm fed up of preaching my national values, I think it would be a good thing to put my money where my mouth is and "fall in" so to speak.
Then when I get back I could direct my hatred of the football yob oik or the abusive Irish navey or the urban gang twat with heart felt hatred and disdain from a vantage point with real moral integrity.
Until then I'm just another civvie and to be honest, I don't feel complete as a citizen of this country. I do feel a need to serve it, a duty, otherwise I just feel like I'm trespassing. I was born here and that's it. This country in reality owes me nothing and like it or not, I am in debt to this country. By enlarge I've failed to make myself useful in this country in civilian employment so the army is still a definite option. (I failed to become a professional skateboarder too seeing as we're on the website).
Was looking at Leonard Cohen's biography. Jewish, very charismatic person moreso with age. Reminds me of the gonz, his art work is very similer to "the gonz". I think that Cohen has lived his life with an acute awareness of the immediate history of the persecution of the Jewish people. This comes through in all his written work and interviews.
ReplyDeleteCan't believe I've only just heard about his work so recently. Must be an age thing? Mature music? Really like it. Very steady, sure footed person, maybe because he only started a music career in his 30's, really puts your mind at rest when listening to it. His poetry can only really be read slowly which in itself has a calming effect.
His earlier work reminds me of the wide open spaces you find in Greece.
I say Leonard Cohen is Jewish. He's not really Jewish, his mother was a Jewish Russian and his father was some kind of high ranking military figure for France. I think the whole "Jewish" thing is absurd anyway.
ReplyDeleteBack in the day you would be labelled a: Cossack or an Hebridean or a Bolshevik or any number of things as an excuse for a dispute or a war. Society has moved on. People have to contend with a much wider mix of people these days which make the old ethnic stereotypes seem trivial. I couldn't honestly say which group I fall into, I think it's somewhere between white English and British.
Leonard Cohen is white, through his art he does portray an image of himself and his family as having some kind of mystique or military significance.
He's Canadian apparently?
ReplyDeleteMy heritage is the best mixed heritage. I've got: Welsh, English (Cornish and Cambridgshire) Irish, Swiss, German and Australian blood in me that I know of. I think it would be fair to say my family has had trouble staying in any one place for any significant amount of time. I think that's why I like, or I'm drawn to these people like Leonard Cohen or "the gonz" or Natas who could turn up some place living in a bin and just be able to get by and make it their home.
ReplyDeleteThe Polish I've been working with are so strong in the way they speak maybe 2 or 3 languages, have superior intellect really, they now how to adapt and move. They are able to make anywhere home through hard work and hard work alone as far as I could see.
The scary thing was some guy was telling me his Grandad survived Auchvitz and he viewed Hitler as God and that he was simply one of the strongest that survived which I find quite a disturbing view for someone to take who went through that experience. I can't dispute the fact he was the best worker we had. One tough cookie but a very cold view of what facism was all about from someone who was persecuted by it. I view facism as unchecked aggression and brutality and nothing more, hate crime.
The irony of Leonard Cohen is that he has an almost military work mentality who has chosen to be a poet. He truely could have done anything with his life and he chose the hardest of the hard, Poetry. Higher suicide rate than, artists, farmers, accounts and dentists put together it's such a bitch. That shows phenomenal will power and courage I think. That takes balls and conviction and backbone. I admire that very much. He's a good poet and song writer too. There's no denying it. You can sense through his lyrics and the structure of his work that he is a grafter. He understands the creative process perfectly and through self critism and refinement has produced fantastic work.
ReplyDeleteHis success should be intangible, or society tells us that the success of creative people by enlarge is or should be intangible or inquantifiable but this guy is setting his own bar and it's set very high for others to look at in awe or shame.
He represents justice by his very being. He is a symbol of a Jewish Russian beating the Nazi ideology and winning the hearts of the French. A charismatic, handsome, Russian, Jewish, Frenchman with something to say and I think that's brilliant.

ReplyDeleteThis is strong stuff, apparently "fetard" means party animal in French.
