Wasn't Tony Hawk's first board called the "Zoney Hawk"? Am I the only person commenting on these things? I had it I think, 1983?
Becoming a "pro skater" is such a grey area. We all know Tony Hawk is shit at street and he was the only person to do a sketchy 720 on vert. His only saving grace is that he's been there since the beginning so in that sense he is a true pioneer but he's still milked it like a politician claiming power. He is the mediator...
Watching modern skating today is like watching modern porn films. It's become bland and souless and standardised for the masses. Loveless. These young skaters have fucked skateboarding.
That Joe Cole guy? (Scottish Name/Northern) What a fucking prick. It's so obvious that he has single mindedly set out to be "the best skater ever" of his time and for me I'm left feeling he's trying to impress some neo-nazi, survival of the strongest ideology upon me. He's not enjoyable to watch..sorry dude. You make me want to join the army your skating is so straight edge.
Like Glastonbury is now "Natwest-onbury". I Imagine you'd go there these days to be told by other people that you're just too fucking ugly to be broadcast on E4. Bomb the fuckin lot of them that's what I say. I'd get more enjoyment from trying to chat up a PC. These people are dull!!! THAT'S THE REALITY!!!!!
I will always love the freaks like "the Gonz" or Cardial or Natas or ....just someone showing individualism or expressing identity or a style or genuine enthusiasm and joy for the love of their art. Gonz makes tricks look bigger than they are, cardial faster, Natas more fun.
I loved the fact Tom Penny was stoned all the time, why not? That's the fuckin dream I wanted to live. Not some fuckin elite trained national figurehead athlete fag assed homo seeking approval from the masses.... it just makes me sick.
Talking politics. The iraq thing. I think somebody needs to own up to writing that absurd report Tony Blair read out in parliment as reason enough for invading Iraq. The one with the pictures of rockets. I have a keen sense for bullshit and I knew immediately that he was lieing. Mainly because it was all circumstantial and speculative but also because someone in the know (Graham Knuttle: American celebrity artist) who movd within celebrity and pollitical circles preceeding the Iraq war told me that America and Britain were planning a war.
Should Tony Blair face jail, punishment? I don't know but either way he has to live with what he has done and that is perhaps punishment enough. When people start talking electric chairs and hanging I immediately think of the brutality of countries less safe than our own. I think that Tony Blair will come to regret his actions and will apologise with time... if he lives long enough.
How is it almost every other country in Europe is able to live in peace with the rest of the world except us. I don't want to go to war. My percieved threat of the Taliban is small. If some people want to put themselves in the front line, thanks. But not me sorry. I don't like guns/modern warefare.
I understand we have immigrants living here because they have supported our country and feel entitled to a part of it. That is the legacy of empire our generation has inherited.
to first post, hell yeah. skating is way gay and unoriginal these days. barely any respectable artwork on boards anymore, mass produced corporate crap is what it looks like now a days. im trying to find clips of simon woodstock from back in the day. what a funny bastad.
Simon Woodstock.. very vaguely remember him. Used to skate with Neil Urwin down south or was he American? I can't remember? Didn't he used to dress up in clown outfits?
Yeah skating is no longer original because it has kind of been fully explored. Nothing new has happened in ages so people are looking back to the past for inspiration like long boards or mid/early ninties shapes.
I don't know about the art work, if it's any better these days? Difficult to judge.
Ok, Tony Hawk is a nice bloke. The world needs more nice blokes. It turns the world into a nice place. Seen some of his interviews and stuff. Nice guy I suppose. No need to injure himself anymore, point made...retire, quit while ur ahead.
Most people don't have the luxury of being able to do nothing for any significant amount of time. Smoking cannabis is a royal habit and should be treated such.
Cannabis is a passifier to most people. It debilitates them with a lack of motivation or apathy towards the world. They end up lacking a will to live active lives or "to win" really. So most dope smokers have a reputation as being under achievers or as being wasters really.
....but when you think about it society needs wasters. Not everybody lives the ideal life, there are winners and losers and sometimes you find yourself admiring the poor hero with nothing over the ruthlessly rich person with an easy life. Fact: poor people smoke more than rich people.
Bear in mind first and foremost that cannabis is illegal so you're not paying tax on it, it's not regulated, it's not really a safe thing to get involved with because those people profiting from it are operating outside the law and it's not really socially acceptable either. Most people would consider it to be damaging or harmful to society so it is policed.
I don't really know what I'm talking about with this "royal habit" stuff. I think that might be a load of bollocks someone once said to me? A rasta possibly? You could say shooting up on Opium or Heroin was a Royal habit looking back at history. Basically, Royalty has licence to do whatever the fuck they like because they can....
Ultimately it is up to the individual to decide whether to use cannabis for as long as there are people looking to buy it there will be people supplying it, like anything in life. Even insanely dangerous skateboard videos or bullshit propaganda from your government....

That's the sign of true power. A person who does not give a fuck. Someone with no fear.
